Processing Accounts Receivable Accurately
Accounts receivable processing begins with customers transmitting billing files, from which the service generates and sends paper and electronic invoices. Paper-based payments will be received and processed by Mellon’s remittance processing service, and electronic payments will be received by Mellon's EDI/ACH facilities.
Other banks and vendor services also will be accommodated. Cash will be applied and discrepancies resolved based on customer-supplied guidelines. The service also can provide collection support such as dunning letters and statements. In addition, the service will reconcile a customer's demand deposit account and update its general ledger and cash management systems. Customers have access to all AR information and reports via a Web browser interface.
The venture will use the full range of existing Mellon services and vendor partnerships for AP/AR such as purchasing card, check issuance, AP Rem EDISM, remittance processing, invoice production and bad debt management.

The automatic stay of bankruptcy stops you from all efforts to collect on a debt, take possession of collateral, enforce a lien or set off against a debtor, until the bankruptcy court allows otherwise. However, there generally will be a first meeting of creditors for anyone filing bankruptcy, and this gives you a chance to show up, with or without a lawyer, and ask a lot of questions. No judge attends and no rules of evidence apply, so you can learn a great deal at little cost. Your debt may not be dischargeable (meaning that the debtor will still end up owing you) if you can show there was fraud in the original credit application, and you performed due diligence by checking on the facts before relying on them. In most states, you will be able to take your own disputes to a small claims court, with a minimal filing fee, and no lawyers involved. These courts look remarkably like the ones you see on TV -- short on legal protocol, but quick and simple.
